About the Item

PRINS Pierre Ernest (1838-1913) Pastel on card signed low right and dated 1912 Luxury frame gilded with gold leaves with protective glass cover Card Size : 54 X 68 cm Frame size : 69 X 83 cm PRINS Pierre Ernest (1838-1913) French painter born on November 26, 1838 in Paris. Died on January 21, 1913 in Paris In 1854, Pierre Prins attended the School of Decorative Arts. He became a friend of Mallarmé, then of Edouard Manet. But the precarious health of his wife, musician Fanny Claus, forced the household to migrate to Belgium until her death in 1877. When he returns to Paris, he is forgotten. He sometimes exhibits at the Salon. But it is the Galerie Georges Petit that organises its first special exhibition in 1890. He has always favoured outdoor work, on the pattern, all over France and England, in the forest, on the banks of the rivers, from dawn to dusk, and in all seasons. Only Édouard Vuillard, his youngest of more than thirty years, was able to produce this deaf intensity of emotion that emanates from the paintings and pastels of Prins.
