Description
A vibrant expressive landscape by Spanish artist Ulpiano Carrasco, titled Verano en Castillejo and dated 1998 on the reverse.
This oil on canvas represents a powerful Castilian landscape, built through dense impasto, energetic brushwork and a luminous palette of greens, yellows, blues, whites and earthy reds. The composition captures an open rural panorama with olive trees, rolling cultivated fields and distant hills, transforming the Spanish countryside into an intense chromatic experience.
Carrasco does not approach landscape as simple topography. His painting turns nature into matter, rhythm and emotion. The fields appear almost sculpted with paint, while the olive trees emerge as dark, expressive forms against the vibrating surface of the land. The result is a landscape full of movement, heat and Mediterranean-Castilian atmosphere.
The work is especially attractive for collectors of Spanish contemporary landscape painting, expressive impasto painting, Mediterranean landscapes, olive tree paintings and colorful modern rural scenes. Its strong texture, generous format and decorative presence make it highly suitable for interiors seeking a bold, luminous and authentic European artwork.
Bio
Ulpiano Carrasco, born in Cuenca in 1961, is a Spanish painter and sculptor closely associated with the expressive landscape tradition of La Mancha and the Castilian countryside.
His work is known for its intense color, thick impasto, energetic brushwork and emotional interpretation of nature. Carrasco often paints vineyards, olive groves, fields, sunflowers, rural horizons and Mediterranean-inspired landscapes, turning familiar Spanish scenery into powerful chromatic compositions.
After studying Fine Arts in Salamanca, he developed an international career with exhibitions in Spain and abroad. His works have appeared in galleries and art platforms connected with Paris, New York, Miami, London, Singapore and Hong Kong. Today, Carrasco is appreciated on the contemporary art market for his unmistakable material technique, luminous palette and deeply personal vision of the Spanish landscape.
Artistic inspiration
This painting connects with the great tradition of expressive European landscape painting. Its vigorous impasto and emotional handling of color recall the intensity of Vincent van Gogh, while its chromatic freedom and structural rhythm may appeal to collectors interested in the landscapes of Maurice de Vlaminck, André Derain, Joaquín Sorolla, Joaquín Mir and Nicolas de Staël.
At the same time, Carrasco’s connection with the Spanish countryside gives the work a distinctive identity. The olive trees, fields and open horizon evoke the rural soul of Castile, but filtered through a contemporary, gestural and highly textured pictorial language.
