English Primitive School, c.1790 Grazing horses Oil on canvas Painting size 17 1/8 x 22 1/4 in Framed size 23 1/2 x 28 1/2 in Painted around 1790, this charming provincial portrait captures the quiet elegance of the English countryside at the close of the eighteenth century. Although the artist remains unidentified, the composition displays a confident understanding of equine form and a keen appreciation for the pastoral landscape.
