About the Item

Title Provencal River Landscape Post Impressionist Oil Painting in Ornate Gilt Frame Key Details Artist/School: French School, Post-Impressionist, 20th century Medium: Oil on board Size: Painting: 14.5 x 18.5 inches Frame: 23.5 x 27.5 inches Frame: Original ornate gilt frame Provenance: Private collection, France Condition: Good and pleasing condition Description A charming Post-Impressionist French landscape capturing the warmth and quiet rhythm of rural Provence, beautifully presented in a substantial and highly decorative gilt frame. The composition centres on a tranquil river scene, with gently flowing water, moored boats, and a small rural structure nestled along the bank. Tall, slender trees frame the foreground, drawing the eye into a soft, sunlit landscape dotted with cypress forms and distant buildings. A solitary figure adds a human touch, grounding the scene in everyday life. The painting is handled in a loose, expressive manner, with visible brushwork and a light, airy palette of soft blues, greens, and warm earth tones. The influence of Post-Impressionism is evident in the emphasis on colour, atmosphere, and simplified form rather than fine detail. The result is a work that feels both relaxed and evocative, capturing a fleeting sense of place and light. The ornate gilt frame provides a striking contrast to the softness of the painting itself, elevating it into a more formal, decorative piece suitable for traditional interiors, while still working as an eclectic statement in more contemporary settings. A highly decorative and accessible example of French 20th-century landscape painting, offering both visual charm and strong interior appeal.

20th Century Oil painting of an Impressionist River Landscape of Cahors, France Moroney was born on the 14th of February 1949 in South London. Of Anglo Irish parentage, his father was typical of his generation and worried about Ken’s artistic temperament which he viewed as effeminate. As a result, Ken took up boxing and won a gold medal for South London in his teens. His art continued to flourish with his trademark striking use of color. His main medium oils and he favors romantic subjects of Edwardian times. Ken has traveled extensively and spent 2 years working for major galleries in New York. The Royal Academy nominated him in 1976 as being one of the few promising young artists to emerge this century: "Ken Moroney has considerable talent, any painting purchased now can only be seen as a sound long term investment." Ken Moroney's work now hangs in many important collections and has had paintings exhibited at The Royal Academy (London), and the Kline Galleries (Canada). The painting came from a private collection and previously came from Duncan Miller...
