About the Item

"Summer Day" exhibits many of the hallmarks of Impressionism: loose brushwork, a preoccupation with light, and a palpable sense of place -- elements which have doubtless contributed to an enduring affection for the style among art collectors and the public alike. This painting recalls the work of George Loftus Noyes (1864-1954) in particular; most clearly in its delicate colors and softly suffused light. Noyes was a plein-air painter working primarily in the Boston area, but he traveled frequently to Europe and the Impressionist movement there had a strong influence on his style. The painting itself measures 8" x 10". It is unsigned.
