About the Item

Victorian Unsigned Watercolour a Naive Ship Portrait of a Chiliean Packet in traditional Maple Frame. Watercolour painted on paper laid on board, mounted and Framed. Although this is unsigned, it is one of a very collectable genre of ship's paintings. Often called Pierhead Paintings, they were frequently commissioned by the Ship's Owner and is a record of the Vessel often the characters on deck include the Captain and the Owner. This painting is really quite delightful when you poke your nose into the detail and see the sailors scampering around on deck and in the rigging. Note the Captain with his telescope! It is an important historical record from a bygone era when Sailing Boats ruled the waves, it is housed in a traditional style walnut frame. It has an old label attached to the mount with the title Chilian Packet. A really impressive Watercolour in good condition with fresh colours.
