The artworks consists of two vertical oil paintings each framed in ornate gold frames. The total measurement of both paintings side by side: 37 x 39 inches. Individually each piece measures: 37 x 19.5 inches framed. In these oil painting we see a bustling urban scene with a historical ambiance. The central focus in both paintings is the grand stone archway, Arc de Triomphe, situated at the end of a wide street. The sky above is overcast with soft, muted tones of gray and beige, suggesting a calm, twilight scene. In the foreground, the street is lively with people dressed in 19th-century attire, including long dresses, hats, and coats, indicating a period setting. Horse-drawn carriages are visible, adding to the historical context. The street is lined with trees and buildings, with figures engaged in various activities such as walking, conversing, and carrying goods. The color palette is subdued, with earthy greens, browns, and grays dominating the scene, creating a harmonious and nostalgic atmosphere. Lebot is a French painter renowned for his masterful trompe-l'œil and impressionistic works that capture the interplay of light, transparency, and texture with astonishing precision. Born in France, Lebot discovered his passion for painting at a young age, drawing early inspiration from the Impressionists, particularly Camille Pissarro. As a self-taught artist, he initially emulated the luminous haystacks and landscapes of the Impressionist masters, earning early recognition through local exhibitions and awards during his school years. Lebot's career took a professional detour as he pursued other endeavors, setting aside his brushes for decades. It was not until his retirement that he fully recommitted to painting, evolving his style toward the technical demands of impressionism. Influenced by contemporary trompe-l'œil techniques—such as those employed by artist Bruno Logan—he mastered the glazing method in oil, layering translucent pigments to achieve profound chiaroscuro effects, radiant highlights, and lifelike reflections. This approach demands meticulous discipline, acute observation, and unwavering patience, transforming ordinary subjects into optical illusions that challenge the viewer's perception. Based in La Chapelle-sur-Erdre, near Nantes in the Pays de la Loire region, Lebot's oeuvre features still lifes, architectural scenes, and everyday objects rendered with playful fidelity yet infused with an emotional depth derived from his impressionist roots. His works have been celebrated in numerous regional exhibitions, including the Salon d'Automne in Aizenay and the Arts sur Digue festival, where he has garnered public acclaim and prizes for his innovative blend of tradition and illusion.
