About the Item

Werner Koepf, (German/American, 1909-1992) Signed: Koepf, '40, (lower, right) " Greenwich Village " , (titled by artist on stretcher verso) Oil on canvas 20" x 24" Housed in a 4" Husar frame in gold metal leaf with fabric liner added later. The painting appears to be in very good original condition with vivid colors. An interesting image of Greenwich Village from that time period. In an attempt to identify the structure, I spoke with Sarah Apmann of the Greenwich Village Society for Historical Preservation and she identified several places that may be the location of the subject. If you would like to see this information, I would be happy to forward it to you.

New York Apartments - Landscape

Located in Soquel, CA

Dramatic skyline by unknown artist Cole (20th Century). A series of apartment buildings are rendered in short, colorful brushstrokes, almost in a pointillist style. Next to the buildings, and American flag hangs from a flagpole, contrasting against a hazy blue and white background of buildings in the distance. At the bottom of the composition, a lone woman hangs laundry to dry on the roof of the apartment, adding a sense of scale to the piece. Signed in the lower right corner ("COLE") Presented in an ornate gilded frame...
