About the Item

A fine impressionist cityscape in New York City by American artist William Maynard (1921-2016). Maynard was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, and was a graduate of the school of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and also studied for two years at Massachusetts College of Art. Mr. Maynard was on the faculty at New England School of Art and Design for thirty-two years and at one time was chairman of the Fine Arts Department. He was also a faculty member at the school of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Mr. Maynard's studio was located at 72A Commercial St, Provincetown MA. It was an open studio and he always enjoyed greeting visitors. He was a member of New England Watercolor Society, the Provincetown Art Association and Museum and New England School of Art and Design. Having a long and rich connection with Provincetown, many of his subjects reflect his love of the town. Oil on canvas, signed lower right, title inscribed on verso “General Post Office New York City, Intersection of Broadway and Park Row,” and housed in a quality molded giltwood frame.
