Cattle Watering in a North Country Landscape by William Mellor British Oil Painting by William Mellor (British, 1851–1931) signed oil on panel, framed Framed size: 13 x 17 inches Panel size: 10 x 14 inches Provenance: private collection, England Condition: very good overall condition. Light age-related wear consistent with period. The frame is in good decorative condition with minor wear to the gilding. A beautifully executed signed landscape by the sought-after British painter William Mellor depicting Cattle Watering in a North Country Landscape. Known for his highly accomplished atmospheric landscapes and refined handling of light, Mellor captures a tranquil pastoral scene with grazing cattle standing in calm waters beneath softly receding hills. The composition is particularly appealing, balancing rich foreground detail with excellent atmospheric depth beyond. Warm autumnal tones, delicate reflections across the water, and the subtle handling of distant mountains demonstrate the artist’s accomplished and highly decorative style. The inclusion of cattle lends movement and pastoral charm to this quintessentially British landscape. William Mellor remains well regarded for his finely painted landscapes, which continue to be highly collectable among admirers of traditional British painting. This is an elegant cabinet-sized example that would sit beautifully within both country house and classic interiors.
