Title: French School Mid Century Seated Female Nude Figure Study Charcoal Medium: Charcoal and white chalk on brown artists paper, unframed Size: 19.75 x 11.25 inches (height x width) Signed: Appears indistinctly signed lower right possibly Avetram or similar however signature not clearly legible Provenance: private collection Condition: Good overall condition consistent with age. Visible edge wear minor creasing to lower margin and light surface handling marks. Natural charcoal softness and slight smudging consistent with the medium. No major tears observed. Description: An expressive mid century French School academic life study depicting a seated female nude executed in charcoal and heightened with white chalk on warm brown artists paper. The figure is captured in a contemplative pose, one arm raised gently toward the face while the body curves naturally through the torso and bent legs. The artist uses confident gestural charcoal lines to construct the anatomy, while broad passages of white chalk create luminous highlights across the shoulders torso thighs and shins. This dramatic interplay of dark tonal mass and illuminated form gives the figure striking sculptural presence. The background is vigorously worked with loose charcoal strokes creating depth and contrast against the lighter modelling of the body.
