A very large and quite magnificent early example of probably one of the finest early genuine original oil / acrylic on canvas conceptual space exploration works painted by Robert McCall in 1971 for NASA. Robert McCall has been recognised many times over for being if not, then certainly one of the most world famous space artists, conceptual artists and science fiction artists ever. This highly detailed large and very heavily bespoke metal framed 100% genuine and one only unique oil / acrylic painting on canvas painted by Robert McCall of this titled " SPACECRAFT LAUNCH PAD ". The images of this painting have been illustrated in a number of space and conceptual space exploration books. This perfectly preserved early example of Robert T McCall's original oil / acrylic painting on canvas has a most interesting and proven provenance. This particular painting is one of 3 other remaining important early NASA inspired Robert McCall future conceptual space travel and exploration works intended to help forge NASA's future ideas to conquer space. This painting of the perceived conceptual NASA SPACE SHUTTLE AND LAUNCH PAD OR LAUNCH OFF THE BACK OF A LARGE JET PLANE by Robert T McCall in 1971 was originally purchased directly from Robert McCall in the 1970's by a Sheik known to Robert McCall (who later became a good friend apparently), who then arranged for the painting to be displayed in a highly regarded Science Museum within the Sheik's country. The painting then later returned to England London to be held in the Sheik's private collection for many years unseen for decades. However, on the sad passing of this esteemed and important dignitary, this important NASA INSPIRED CONCEPTUAL SPACE PAINTING of what was to possibly be the future blueprint design for the NASA SPACE SHUTTLE was sold with 3 other Robert McCall space paintings, that have now only just re appeared onto the open market, having spent a further number of years in a specialist climate controlled fine art storage facility. With these paintings also come the provenance photo images of the Sheik with Robert celebrating the sale of the paintings by Robert to the Sheik. These images can only be supplied with the paintings as part of the proven provenance for the painting. It is now almost impossible to find any early or late original Robert T McCall oil / acrylic paintings available for sale on the open market. This is because, on Robert's death in 2010, we understand that all his private remaining collection of paintings and those that remained unfinished in his Artist's Studio were quickly purchased by Museums and film studios due to their historical importance etc. Which is not surprising, as Robert McCall did the original conceptual art work for the film A 2001 SPACE ODYSSEY and the conceptual and production art work for the first STAR TREK MOTION PICTURE and other works for Disney Studios. Visionary, abstract original acrylic on aluminum painting by famous NASA Space Artist, Andreas Nottebohn, titled "KNM 1387" depicts a colorful, otherworldly scene on a shimmering sheet of scored metal. This incredible celestial painting frees the viewer from a one dimensional perspective by suggesting a vast and mysterious distance. Information on the back of the painting states, “KNM 1387 Spec 1 of 48 similar original paintings 1996 30 x 24 Acrylic on Aluminum”. Hand signed by the artist in the lower left corner. Very nicely custom framed in a transitional style black frame with wide silver inner lining. Framed, the painting measures approximately 35" high x 29" wide x 2" deep. Unframed painting measures approximately 30" high x 24" wide. One of the key innovators of metal painting, Nottebohm creates what might be called sculptures on a flat plane. By removing microscopic layers from the metal surface, he transforms the material into patterns of shimmering light. The unusual luminous quality of Nottebohm's work comes from the aluminum surfaces he scores, using a variety of manual and machine tools. Aluminum can create light and movement that you cannot create with anything else. It is similar to the sun reflecting on water, and you see one painting from one side and another painting from another side. East German born (1944) Andreas Nottebohm moved to Munich as a teenager and immigrated to the San Francisco Bay area of the United States in 1979, after touring the U.S. for a one man exhibition.
