About the Item

Still Life With White Teapot and Roses – Catalan Impressionist Oil Painting Artist: Antonio Sala Herrero (Barcelona, 1927–2012) Title: Still Life with White Teapot and Roses Technique: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 61 × 50 cm / 24.02 × 19.69 in Signature: Signed lower left and inscribed verso Date: circa 1975 Framing: Unframed Condition: Very good vintage condition Description Elegant Catalan impressionist still life by Antonio Sala Herrero, featuring a refined composition with a white porcelain teapot, teacup and a luminous bouquet of roses arranged on draped fabric. Executed with soft atmospheric brushwork and subtle tonal harmony, the painting captures the intimate serenity of classic European interior still life painting. Warm beige textiles, muted olive backgrounds and delicate floral highlights create a sophisticated palette filled with quiet Mediterranean light. The composition demonstrates Sala Herrero’s sensitivity to balance, texture and luminosity, combining traditional still life aesthetics with the freshness and spontaneity of mid-century Spanish impressionism. The transparent glass vase, creamy whites of the porcelain and velvety roses reveal careful observation and painterly elegance. Strongly evocative of French and Catalan post-impressionist traditions, the work recalls the intimate domestic poetry found in painters such as Henri Fantin-Latour, Pierre Bonnard, Joaquín Mir and Ramón de Capmany, while maintaining a distinctly Catalan atmosphere. An ideal piece for collectors of European impressionism, floral still lifes and refined Mediterranean interiors. Artist Bio Antonio Sala Herrero was a Spanish painter born in Barcelona in 1927. A self-taught artist from an early age, he developed a distinguished career focused primarily on landscapes, marines, harbor scenes and luminous still lifes. In 1967 he presented his first solo exhibition in Figueres, beginning a long exhibition trajectory throughout Barcelona, Palamós, Vic, Sabadell, Terrassa, Palma de Mallorca and other important Catalan artistic centers. His work was exhibited in galleries such as La Pinacoteca and Tramontan, and he received notable distinctions including the Vila de Palamós Prize (1969) and recognition from the Société Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris (1983). Sala Herrero’s painting is appreciated for its luminous atmosphere, refined chromatic sensitivity and Mediterranean elegance. Artistic Context This work belongs to the tradition of European impressionist and post-impressionist still life painting, connecting with the intimate floral compositions of Henri Fantin-Latour, the warm interiors of Pierre Bonnard and the poetic Mediterranean sensitivity associated with Catalan painters such as Ramón de Capmany and Joaquín Mir. Its quiet elegance and refined palette make it especially appealing for collectors of timeless decorative modern art. impressionist still life, floral oil painting, white teapot painting, spanish impressionism, catalan painting, mediterranean still life, roses oil painting, european still life art, vintage floral painting, elegant interior painting, mid century spanish art, collectible oil painting, french style still life, post impressionist floral art, catalan modern painting European art with a Mediterranean soul.
