About the Item

A stunning mixed media work featuring a historic Safety Box from Pier 70 in San Francisco. The box that was mounted to a wall near the artist's studio, is now gone, as the historic region is under mass changes in the name of progress. Soon, the 'Dog Patch" region will be unrecognizable as the old shipyard is being dismantled to make way for profitable new construction. While the artist captures scenes around her, the Pier 70 series considers people who came before — the earlier San Franciscans - the people who worked in the shipyard — and reflects days gone by. Ink, gouache, dry pigment, pen, and colored pencil on paper. Comes in a pristine museum quality pale wood frame with all archival materials. Artwork dimension is 5 x 7 inches. Outer dimension of the frame is 16 x 19 inches. A wonderful work of art by Kim Frohsin, who is often associated with the Bay Area Figurative movement. She began exhibiting in the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 1990s, and in 1993 was included with Nathan Olivera, Manuel Neri and Stephen De Staebler in an exhibit of "Four Figures from the Bay." With Wayne Thiebaud as the juror, she won the California Society of Printmakers' Award in 1996, and the following year exhibited at the de Young Museum in San Francisco in "Bay Area Art: The Morgan Flagg Collection." Frohsin is a multidisciplinary visual artist, who is at home with painting, drawing, monoprintIng, and mixed media. Her subjects include the female figure as well as mundane ''objects" and series — including ‘Cautionary Tales’ and ‘Portraits of Numbers’— that attract her attention, and which are most often autobiographical in nature.
