About the Item

Woman looking at man on the field drawing/painting. Victor Semon Perard was born in Paris and received his early art training at the Ecole des Beaux Arts where he studied with Gérôme. Additionally, he studied at the National Academy of Design and at the Art Students League in New York. To further his knowledge of anatomy, he also attended the New York University Medical College. Following this preparation, he entered the field of illustration, working for Scribner’s, Harper’s Weekly and The Century as well as several book publishers. A gifted teacher, Perard lectured on anatomy and taught at the Traphagen School of Art and at the Woman’s Art Department at Cooper Union from 1914 to 1932. He reached a larger audience of students, however, through his many art instruction books, including How to Draw, Drawing Horses and many others, some twenty in total. An active member of the Society of Illustrators and Salmagundi Clubs, he exhibited widely and is represented in many museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Library of Congress, the Cooper Union Art School, the New-York Historical Society, and the National Gallery of Art. 7.25" x 11.25"; Framed 18.75" x 22.75"
