Colour radiates across the image, vibrating with an intensity more commonly associated with painting, while layers of transparency create the depth and delicacy of translucent glazes. Hug’s composition moves between haziness and precision, atmosphere and structure. Soft passages dissolve into radiant fields, while moments of clarity anchor the work and draw the eye deeper into the image. Although rooted in photography, Masque Jaune deliberately resists easy categorisation.
