About the Item

High Line at 19th Street (Iconic Architectural Detail on Manhattan's West Side) by James Bleecker Contemporary sepia toned photograph of New York City's High Line, the iconic raised walkway in Manhattan's west side neighborhood archival pigment print on watercolor paper, unframed & made to order 24 x 20 inches, edition of 25 Also available in the following sizes: 50 x 40 inch paper size, ed. of 15, $6500 70 x 60 inch paper size, ed. of 10, $11,500 This sepia toned cityscape photograph was taken by Manhattan native, James Bleecker. The architectural detail highlighted in this image is part of the steel columns that raise New York City's most beloved raised walkway, known as the High Line. This famous New York City landmark is visited by thousands on a regular basis to enjoy the views and lounge areas away from the traffic of the street below. Bleecker zeroes in on the architectural details of the steel studded columns, creating a composition that has qualities of an abstract painting. The street sparkles with a fresh rain and a street light glows religiously on the street corner. The print measures 24 x 20 inches and is made to order. Additional sizes are also available. Artist Statement: The High Line’s transformation from el-train to elevated park was just underway in 2007. Inch-thick steel plates studded with rivets brought to mind the hull of an old ocean liner. Shouldered by new glass buildings, the rusting High Line dug in its heels and refused to budge. I wanted to photograph the giant before it was subdued. "Not only does James beautifully document this complex project, he captures a sense of the tragedy of 9/11 and the uplifting spirit of the new construction and the reclaiming of the skyline." – David Childs, architect of One World Trade Center More about the artist: James Bleecker photographs the landscapes and architecture of his native New York State. Since 1983 his work has spanned independent fine art photography and commercial architectural photography. Much of his work has been commissioned by museums and historic preservation groups in the Hudson River valley. About James’s work, Edgar Munhall, Curator Emeritus of The Frick Collection, has written, "James's work is powerful and mature. Rigorously composed and technically perfect, his photographs can reduce you to tears by their beauty."
