Baltic Pine - black and white analogue forest photograph, limited edition 4/20

Baltic Pine - black and white analogue forest photograph, limited edition 4/20

By Ugne Pouwell

Located in London, GB

Amidst a dense, unyielding forest, twisted branches reach out like silent expressions of resilience. The Baltic pine, shaped by time and the elements, bends but does not break, adapting with a quiet defiance. Even in a harsh and limiting environment, where the sky is veiled in mist and the trees stand in rigid order, nature carves its own path—unruly, untamed, and free. The gnarled limbs, stretching in unpredictable directions, embody an organic rebellion, proving that even within constraint, there is movement, there is voice, there is becoming. Freedom is not the absence of boundaries, but the refusal to be defined by them. Limited edition of 20 Photographed in Lithuania, Giruliai forest using a 4x5 large format camera...

Baltic pine - analogue black and white forest photography, Limited edition 3/10

'Baltic pine' 2021 The pine forests of the Baltic coast are shaped by conditions that are both precise and unforgiving: sandy soil, constant wind, salt carried inland from the sea, and long seasonal extremes of light and darkness. These forces slow growth and distort form. Branches extend horizontally, twist, or break, adapting to pressure rather than symmetry. This photograph was made in Giruliai forest, Lithuania, using a large-format 4×5 film camera. The process demands stillness and time, mirroring the environment itself. Each exposure is deliberate; nothing is incidental. In Baltic landscapes, pine is not decorative. It is structural, a species that persists where others cannot. Its presence defines the rhythm of the coast and the experience of space within the forest. The image isolates this tension between endurance and fragility, movement and restraint. Rendered in black and white, the work removes seasonal colour and geographic nostalgia, allowing form, density, and light to become the primary language. The resulting image is not a description of a place, but a study of adaptation, how nature holds itself under continuous pressure. Printed as a limited edition of ten, this work belongs to an ongoing body of analogue photographs exploring northern landscapes through minimal intervention and material presence. Photographed in Lithuania, Giruliai forest using a 4x5 large format camera...

Twilight #19, Gathering - Silver Birch Tree - Black and White Landscape Print

Twilight #19, Gathering - Silver Birch Tree - Black and White Landscape Print

By Jasper Goodall

Located in London, GB

A stand of spinous silver birch gather, shining white against the inky night... Over a three-year period, Goodall has visited areas of British forest and moorland to make images that he refers to as being 'more akin to fairytale than documentary'. There is indeed an unreal quality to the images, and this is perhaps a result of using artificial lighting; it reminds one of those spooky, unnaturally lit forests we see in the movies. In the absence of any natural illumination (save for a few that include the moon), scenes are lit as if they are in a studio setting. This results in imagery that feels eerily unfamiliar; transporting the viewer from the recognisable landscape into a kind of liminal netherworld - it's the landscape, but not as we are used to seeing it. Goodall responds to this observation by speaking about the possibility of the darkness being seen as a metaphor for the unconscious mind; the 'light' of consciousness illuminates the known forms of tree and rock, but beyond these certainties lies the unknown. When your eyes have little information, your imagination takes over and fills in the gaps." - Jasper Goodall...
