About the Item

Tantrum in Tan is a controlled eruption, an emotional outcry filtered through restraint. In this piece, James Chadwick channels the raw, childlike fury of expressionism through a sun-baked palette of tans, beiges, rusts, and faint ochres. Where color might traditionally scream, here it simmers. Yet beneath the subdued tones lies an unmistakable agitation like a silent scream rendered in slow motion. Layered over this subdued foundation is a web of linework, symbols, half-formed figures, and erratic text fragments each scribble a pulse, each glyph a syllable in the larger noise of being. Chadwick's photographs playfully reference a painting process. Ultimately, this photograph doesn’t ask to be understood linearly. It demands to be felt, decoded, lived with. In Chadwick’s hands, noise becomes something sacred, a language of resistance, memory, and transformation.
