About the Item

Two vintage gelatin silver press photographs, cm. 18x24 and 20x25.5. A rare pair of vintage press photographs documenting Federico Fellini during the production of his celebrated film Fellini Satyricon (1969). Together, the images provide an engaging behind-the-scenes record of one of the director's most visually ambitious and influential productions. The first photograph captures Fellini directing actors on one of the film's elaborate classical sets, surrounded by performers in Roman-inspired costumes. The theatrical staging and monumental scenography exemplify the extravagant visual language that made Satyricon a landmark of post-war European cinema. The second image presents a quieter, intimate moment away from the set, portraying Fellini in conversation with Giulietta Masina, his wife and lifelong artistic collaborator, during a production break. Their interaction offers a rare glimpse into the personal and creative partnership that profoundly shaped Fellini's cinematic universe. The versos bear period editorial annotations, layout instructions, and agency markings. One photograph is identified as relating to Fellini Satyricon, while another includes handwritten editorial notes referencing the film and Giulietta Masina, confirming their original circulation within the Italian illustrated press.   Condition: Both photographs are in good overall condition, with light handling wear, editorial annotations, and minor surface marks consistent with their original use as working press prints.
