Vortex No. Duae, limited edition photograph, signed, archival pigment ink Mitch Dobrowner has been traveling across the country with professional storm chasers for over a decade with the goal of capturing the calm amidst the storm. Though this seems counterintuitive, Dobrowner's hyper-technical approach and incredibly focused compositional eye enable him to find a sense of grounding even during the most extreme weather events. The translation of this imagery into flawless black-and-white prints provides the viewer with that same sense of peace, even among the chaos, a moment of stillness can always be found. In Vortex No. Duae, we are able to see a tornado seemingly in the midst of its own formation. Wispy clouds cling to the stoic center of the storm system, only moments away from becoming fully incorporated as a means to fuel this serpentine tornado. This image is not only special because of the natural event that it depicts, but also because of the tension that the subject communicates to the viewer — an agent of destruction that is growing in power, an awesome sight that will be sure to do at least a little bit of damage before dissipating back into which it came.
