This limited-edition fine art photograph by Raphael Macek belongs to the artist’s celebrated exploration of the horse as both a sculptural presence and a timeless expression of strength, movement, elegance, and character. Known internationally for his distinctive approach to equine fine art photography, Macek creates images in which the horse transcends conventional animal portraiture, becoming a study of form, light, anatomy, landscape, and emotion. Printed as an archival pigment print, the work is produced to fine art standards with exceptional tonal depth, detail, and longevity. Each available size is released in a strictly limited edition of 12, making the photograph particularly compelling for collectors of contemporary photography, equestrian art, horse photography, and large-scale fine art photography. About Raphael Macek Raphael Macek was born on August 11, 1981, in São Paulo, Brazil, into a family whose relationship with horses extends across generations. His grandfather bred racehorses and served as treasurer of the Jockey Club of São Paulo, while his father, a veterinarian and horse breeder, continued the family tradition on their farm in Bauru, in the interior of São Paulo state, where Macek was raised from the age of one. Horses were therefore part of Macek’s visual and emotional vocabulary long before photography entered his life. From childhood, he developed an unusually intuitive understanding of equine behavior, anatomy, temperament, and movement. His father taught him to regard the horse not simply as an object of beauty, but as a sentient being whose elegance is inseparable from function, evolution, and character. That knowledge became the foundation of Macek’s artistic practice. Rather than merely documenting horses, he approaches them as a portrait photographer and sculptor might approach the human figure: studying gesture, proportion, texture, light, negative space, and personality. His photographs reveal the horse simultaneously as an individual presence and as an almost monumental form. Macek's work explores the intersection of equine portraiture, landscape, architecture, and sculptural light, creating a visual language that has made him one of the distinctive contemporary voices in international horse photography. His first monograph, Equine Beauty: A Study of Horses, published by teNeues in 2013, helped establish his international reputation. Featuring 180 photographs, the book introduced collectors around the world to his highly refined approach to equine portraiture and was published in five languages. Working with high-resolution medium-format photographic equipment and overseeing the production of his large-format fine art prints, Macek maintains close control over the process from image capture through final presentation. His artistic references extend beyond photography, drawing from the monumental relationship between light and landscape associated with Ansel Adams and the atmospheric sensibility of J.M.W. Turner, while remaining grounded in his lifelong knowledge of the horse. Today, Raphael Macek's photographs appeal to collectors of contemporary fine art photography, equestrian art, luxury interiors, horse portraiture, and contemporary photography. His work combines technical precision with an intimate understanding of the animal, transforming the familiar figure of the horse into an enduring study of beauty, presence, and form.
