About the Item

Brighton 27 - Platinum print over silver on vellum paper Edition 1 of 8 , plus 2 AP ( Small size ) An old Harley Davidson motorcycle in front of a gas station garage in Brighton, UK, in 1984. Signed + numbered with certificate of authenticity ( signature and title are hidden here on the photos to avoid counterfeiting ) Silver gives this photograph the distinctive feature of changing tone according to the ambient light. This photography is created entirely by hand utilizing only the most valuable and rare metallic elements : Silver and platinum . By incorporating them directly into the photographic medium, the artist elevates the images to a rarified realm, making each one a truly unique and invaluable artistic object. The resulting images have a luxurious like a piece of jewellery. Each print is a one-of-a-kind work of art. This means that each print is unique even if in an edition of 8 This print is produced using a 19th. century process called Platinum Printing. This image was captured on film in 1984. The negative was scanned to create a digital negative specific to this technique. The photograph is produced by coating a light sensitive Platinum solution on to translucent vellum paper on which the photograph appears which is then bonded with silver on the back of the print. A labor intensive and expensive process which results in a beautiful finish and longevity into the hundreds of years. Print created later. Platinum print with silver ( each in edition of 8 plus 2 AP ) : Image size : 13,5 x 18,5 cm / 5,11 x 7,08" Print : 18,5 x 22 cm / 7,08 x 8,66" Mat : 24 x 30 cm / 9.44 x 11,81'' Ian Sanderson (born 1951 Scotland, died 2020 Spain) was a Scottish photographer. Ian produced images over a 35 year career. For most he worked as both a Commercial and Fine Art photographer; during his last years concentrated on his personal archive. Ian and his widow Nathalie have worked for many years with alternative printing techniques in their workshop, ISP, creating Platinum Palladium, Silver Gelatin, Lith or Gum Bichromate. This culminated in a large retrospective exhibition in Barcelona which was sponsored by the Nando and Elsa Peretti Foundation. Platinum Palladium printing is a traditional photographic technique which precedes silver gelatin technique. Many photographers have worked with it in the past as Irvin Penn, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Robert Mapplethorpe, Sebastiao Salgado o Ormond Gigli with its Platinum with gold leaf print 'Girls in the Windows'. ISP Workshop continues to captivate art lovers by creating unique and fascinating prints. Untitled #11 (Guard St. James's Palace), 2013 - Limited Edition Silver Gelatin

By Giacomo Brunelli

Located in Brighton, GB

Untitled #11 (Guard St. James's Palace) from the series Eternal London is a Limited Edition Silver Gelatin print by Giacomo Brunelli. This size of 9" x 12" from a Limited Edition of 10. As the edition sells through, the print increases in price to reflect rarity. Giacomo Brunelli was commissioned by The Photographer's Gallery, London, to capture the heart of the capital city where he lives. Made over the course of 2 years, Eternal London takes Brunelli's distinctive film noir aesthetic to create an evocative and atmospheric view of London, full of powerful light and shadow work. Framed by boldly abstract silhouettes of people and animals, London's famous landmarks are presented in a less-than-obvious way, reflected in the puddles that typify English weather or looming as a mysterious structure in the background. Captured during daily morning walks, Brunelli randomly chose a person to follow before focussing his camera on them. Working discreetly, like early 20th century photographers such as Jacob Riis...

I photographed David just a few hours before he died, not knowing what was about to happen [...] David was very spiritual [...] My pictures are a poetic, spiritualized look at AIDS".
