About the Item

Framed silk scarf/screenprint by Ascher after an original work by Barbara Hepworth. With printed signature "Barabara Hepworth" lower left, and "by Ascher" in bottom right. Handwritten edition number in lower right corner. Barbara Hepworth (British, 1903 - 1975) was a leading figure of Modernist sculpture and a central voice in the St. Ives art community during and after the Second World War. Trained at the Leeds School of Art and the Royal College of Art, she developed a visual language of organic abstraction that balanced material integrity with spatial rhythm. Hepworth’s lifelong exploration of the relationship between form, space, and spirit made her one of the foremost sculptors of her generation. The gallery’s 1947 serigraph on silk reflects her ability to convey sculptural depth through line and movement, achieving harmony and tension in two dimensions.
