About the Item

Artist Name: Clarence Holbrook Carter Title: Burning Bush Year: 1978 Medium Type: Screenprint Size-Width Size-Height: 35 " x 25.5" inches Edition Size: Signed and numbered in pencil 200/200 Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, Carter honed his skills at the Cleveland School of Art from 1923 to 1927. His talent garnered the attention of William Millikin, the director of the Cleveland Museum of Art, who became a key patron of Carter's work. In 1927, Carter had the opportunity to study under the renowned Hans Hofmann in Capri, Italy, further expanding his artistic horizons. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, Carter gained recognition for his poignant paintings depicting the struggles of rural America during the Great Depression. However, following World War II, he embraced a more surrealist approach to painting, exploring the realms of abstraction and unleashing his creativity in new ways. This signed limited edition silkscreen, titled "1978 Tulip," showcases Carter's evolution as an artist. Through vibrant colors, dynamic shapes, and masterful composition, he invites viewers to explore the depths of abstract expression. The large format of this artwork allows for an immersive experience, captivating the eye and stimulating the imagination. Recognized for his artistic contributions, Carter was elected as an Associate member of the National Academy of Design in 1949 and later became a full member in 1964, solidifying his esteemed position in the art world.

Jimmy Ernst  Plate I - 1970 Print - Screen Print on Heavy Paper 28'' x 37'' inches Edition: Signed in pencil and numbered 112/125 Jimmy Ernst’s artwork was influenced by a number of powerful talents and vital currents in the art of his time. Son of Max Ernst, Jimmy drew upon the biomorphic and surreal compositions of his father, as well as Arp, Klee, André Breton, and Lyonel Feininger. His mature oil paintings, which emerged in the 1950s and 1960s, reflect the Atomic Age aesthetic of the period. Often, they resemble crystals or webs; many look like vast labyrinths and are interpreted as symbols of the unconscious mind. Ernst was always interested in spirituality and drew inspiration from indigenous American art...

Pierre Alechinsky Invisible Flying object - 1977 Print - Lithograph on Arches Archival Paper   25.75'' x 19.5'' Edition: Signed in pencil and marked 10/100 After completing his studies at the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in 1947, Pierre Alechinsky immediately became one of the founders and most active members of the CoBrA group . He began working with other members 'four-handed', especially with Appel and Dotremont, producing oil paintings filled with a multitude of small figures; his taste for ironical titles and curved lines was already becoming evident. After Cobra disbanded, Alechinsky moved to Paris where he studied printmaking and moved in Surrealist circles. His work contains residual figurative motifs, such as goblins, reptiles of every description, volcanoes, and rushing streams. The beasts and geographical elements arouse disquiet as well as smiles of complicity. The recipient of the Andrew Mellon...
