About the Item

A color abstract geometric composition titled "From Color to Form IV", executed in 1969, by the celebrated Italian artist Marino Marini (1901-1980). A rare artist's proof Marini was mainly a sculptor, he studied in Florence, until 1940 he was professor of art at the Scuola d’Arte di Villa Reale near Milan, he was a friend and contempory of Jean Arp, Max Beckmann, Alexander Calder, Giorgio de Chirico and Alberto Giacometti. He participated in the "20th Century Italian Art" exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in NY, 1944, with work exhibited in the Hague, Gallery of Modern Art Milan, Natiopnal Museum of Modern Art Tokyo, The Peggy Guggenheim Collection amongst many others. The composition is a rare artist's proof of a series of 50 and signed "Marini" lower right, on arches paper, condition is excellent, unframed but we at Bloomsbury Fine Art & Antiques can offer a very affordable framing service with museum materials to your taste. This image sold at Christies Auction NY in their 19th & 20th Century prints auction November 3rd 1998 for $4,800.
