About the Item

This striking and vibrant acrylic screen print by Paul Reed features minimalist shapes and provides a thought-provoking commentary on color. The pink hue at the top right corner is paralleled by a bright terracotta orange, while the dark blue background creates stability for the circle, the clear focal point of the composition. Paul Allen Reed (b. 1919, d. 2015) was an artist based in Washington D.C. who is remembered now as one of the original six members of the Washington Color School. After attending the Corcoran School of Art, he moved to New York City where he began working as a graphic designer. His work can be described as both geometric and balanced and his compositions are inherently based on his interpretation of color theory and relationship to form. His work has been shown in museums and galleries all over the nation, most predominantly in New York City, Washington D.C., and Chicago.
