About the Item

Ian Tyson 4 x screenprints from the Schema Series with matching edition numbers Each print is 58 x 58 cm - sheet size matching Edition no. 11 of 30 hand-signed and dated on the front and numbered on the back Ian Tyson (1933–2021) was a British artist, printer, and poet renowned for his contributions to contemporary art and publishing. Born in Wallasey, Cheshire, Tyson studied at Birkenhead School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools. In the late 1960s, he founded the innovative Tetrad Press, which published works by avant-garde poets and artists, including the first edition of Tom Phillips's A Humument. Tyson's own artistic practice encompassed sculpture, painting, and limited-edition prints, often characterized by abstract visual imagery and a focus on the grid's organizing principles. His collaborations with poets, notably American poet Jerome Rothenberg, resulted in works where his abstract imagery responded to the tone and structure of the texts. Tyson continued to produce art until his passing in 2021, leaving a legacy of interdisciplinary exploration and innovation in the art world.
