Born in São Paulo, Brazil in 1961,Vik Muniz is best known for recreating famous imagery from art history and pop culture with food or everyday objects, such as sugar, thread, chocolate syrup and garbage, and then photographing them. His work has been exhibited widely throughout the world and is included in numerous international public and private collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Tate Gallery, London; Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo, Brazil; and Fondation Cartier pour L’Art Contemporain, Paris. Muniz currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
