About the Item

"Manzano" is a woodcut and screenprint by Colombian artist Alfonso Quijano Acero, from the Graficario de la Lucha Popular en Colombia -- a portfolio assembled by the Prografica Workshop in Cali in 1977 to document the struggles waged by the Colombian people, with proceeds from sales directed to the Colombian Communist Party. The print depicts a figure with an outstretched patterned arm reaching to pick an apple from bare tree branches, lifted and supported by multiple hands from a crowd of figures below, against a landscape of green trees and a blue-gray sky. Signed, numbered and dated in pencil.
