The vibrant and charming composition was meant to advertise the sterilized milk produced by Quillot Frères (Brothers) in Montigny-sur-Vingeanne, Côte-d'Or, France. During the late 19th century, advertising posters became a popular art form, blending practicality with beauty. Steinlen was a leading figure in this movement, creating works that were both effective advertisements and standalone pieces of art.
