About the Item

"Juggling" shows a woman depicted from behind, her hair neatly arranged and crowned with a large, intricately woven bird’s nest. Atop the nest sits a vibrantly patterned bird, rendered in Hiratsuka’s signature style of delicate linework and rich, layered color. The juxtaposition of the human, animal, and botanical motifs creates a sense of balance and interconnectedness, echoing the act of juggling multiple roles or responsibilities in life. The print’s dreamlike quality and playful details invite viewers to interpret the narrative in personal ways, while the meticulous etching and chine collé techniques highlight Hiratsuka’s dedication to craft. "Juggling" exemplifies Hiratsuka’s ability to fuse humor, cultural references, and existential themes into a visually captivating and thought-provoking work of art. While the images have some resemblance to traditional Japanese Ukiyo-e prints, their sense of whimsy, satire and irony relate more closely to contemporary life and western sensibilities. Young women and their relationships to shoes, food and fashion provide much of Hiratsuka’s subject matter. Another group of his prints focus on landscape, flowers and floral patterns. Playing on the fantasy princess scenes of a young girl. Hiratsuka’s graphic work has been exhibited in the Americas, Europe and Asia. He has received numerous awards in international competitions. During the last four years he has had 14 solo shows in the United States, and international solo shows in Gabrovo, Bulgaria, Munich, Germany and Geneva, Switzerland. Untitled Mohammad Ariyaei Contemporary Iranian art painting oriental art drawing

By Mohammad Ariyaei

Acrylic painting on paper Hand-signed by the artist lower left Unique work THE THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS OF MOHAMMAD ARIYAEI " Gentleness and oriental wisdom follow the supercharged bubbling to which we were accustomed from the previous deliberately art brut exhibition by Mohammad ARIYAEI. The Iranian painter's imagination moves serenely from the wildest frenzy to the meditative calm of great, fabulous stories. The artist then took pleasure in pouring the volcanic torrent of his barbaric figures onto the delicate latticework with which he is accustomed to lining his backgrounds with the patience of an illuminating monk. Already sweetness and paroxysm coexisted. Now gentleness wins. The trained imagination of the painter, yet spontaneously bubbling, by instinct as much as by erudition, has no difficulty in reconnecting with the abundant oriental tradition of the thousand and one nights, which, like a long underground river, resurfaces at the light of his painting. Spring renewal of traditions still alive. Systematic filling of space, a sort of oriental version of the Riches Heures...
