About the Item

This is an original Lithograph by Paul Delvaux printed by the Atelier Mourlot in Paris. It is annotated "Epreuve d'Exposition" bottom left of the image and dated "3-68" in the plate, located bottom right of the image - proof outside of the edition of 75 that were printed. Certificate of Provenance: Each individual work of art carefully curated by Mourlot Editions comes with a Certificate of Provenance, signed, dated, stamped, and numbered by Eric Mourlot. Stored in a clear protective sleeve accompanying your piece, this certificate guarantees the origin and authenticity of your personal lithograph. About the Artist: (1897-1994) Belgian Delvaux was a surrealist painter from Belgium whose career developed in the shadow of Nazi Germany, however that anxiety is not expressed in his work. Instead Delvaux was interested in exploring humanity and the hidden recesses of the subconscious. His artistic training began in architecture in 1916, but soon shifted his focus to painting when he found inspiration in European Expressionism. This was then matured by the Surrealists and while he wasn’t an official member, he shared the group’s interest in plumbing the depths of the minds which exhibited in bizarre subject matter rather than abstraction as a means of expressiveness. Much of which created uncomfortable scenes designed to emotionally shock the viewer.
