This elegant and iconic 1972 original poster was created to promote the Grands Maîtres Estampes et Dessins exhibition held at La Pochade, a renowned Parisian gallery located at 157 Boulevard Saint-Germain. The show, which ran from 7 June to 31 July 1972, brought together the prints and drawings of some of the 20th century’s most groundbreaking modernists. At the heart of the poster is a striking black-and-white reproduction of Pablo Picasso’s “La Dame à la Collerette”, a portrait characterized by bold lines, expressive distortion, and theatrical flair. The title, meaning “The Lady with the Ruffled Collar,” alludes to the aristocratic portraiture of past centuries, reinterpreted through Picasso’s unmistakable Cubist and expressionist lens. The composition is framed by a whimsical faux frame drawn in earthy brown tones, echoing the style of a primitive, playful woodcut.
