I KNEW EACH STONE AND TREE.....Both Grape and Wine To Me is an original hand drawn stone lithograph by Emanuel Schary(Israel, b. 1924, d. 1994) printed using hand lithography techniques on archival printmaking paper. I KNEW EACH STONE AND TREE portrays a hand drawn realist portrait of an older bearded man immersed in thought set in a bucolic, biblical landscape with rolling hills, village stone houses, and trees. Emanuel Schary celebrated the strength and beauty of ordinary characters. Schary's main artistic themes are the history of Israel and of Jewish New York. Print size - 19.5 x 16 inches, unframed, very good condition, hand signed in pencil by Emanuel Schary, fine impression, artist chop mark embossed on lower right Provenance - personal gift from the artist Image size - 13 x 10 inches Year - 1975 Emanuel Schary - Israel, b. 1924, d. 1994. was renowned for his ability to capture people in revealingly human and touching moments, make his works prized for their simple beauty, tenderness and charm. A master of human realism and a foremost artist depicting both Jewish and everyday life in America, Schary's work is characterized by a love of humanity and observation, giving his work the unique visual signature, making it "a Schary." Emanuel Schary grew up in Israel, an experience that has rewarded him with a rich repository of indelible images and emotions, which he repeatedly draws on and are an intrinsic ingredient in the Schary oeuvre. Schary came to the United States to complete his studies in fine art, where he developed an immediate and irrevocable love of the color, life and earthiness of his two favorite New Yorks-the old and the new.
