Flamingo I & Flamingo II (sold separately)u2028Alice Zanin, cast bronze with a pink patina, the first of three proof pieces, signed u202825 kg / 30 kg each. Two life-size flamingos captured in mid-gesture, their necks curved inward, their weight balanced on a single reed-thin leg, their wings drawn in, each feather rendered with almost feverish precision. Alice Zanin casts each bird in solid bronze using the time-honored lost-wax method, then works the surface until the patina blossoms into that improbable, sun-warmed pink that is true to the species. No two casts are alike: every scale of the plumage, every tension in the leg, is hand-finished, making each sculpture a unique work rather than part of a series. Zanin is best known for her aerial sculptures made of iron and paper—birds suspended in mid-flight, weightless and luminous— But bronze allows her to push in the opposite direction: gravity, mass, stillness contained within movement. These two flamingos were exhibited together this year at the Arte e Natura Selvatica festival at the historic Palazzo Gromo Losa, and come on the heels of her acclaimed presentation at the Pinacoteca di Brera’s Palazzo Citterio, staged within Brunello Cucinelli’s exhibition design and curated by Andrea Dusio. Each sculpture is designed for indoor or outdoor placement and can stand on any solid surface—such as a lawn, paved area, or terrace—or be placed directly in water, as they were at Palazzo Gromo Losa, where they stood in the fountain. For this reason, each piece comes with its own custom-built base—included in the price, if needed—designed for either installation on solid ground or underwater. Sold individually or as a pair.
