Edition of 9 Measurements in include black steel base. The Greek playwright (and so-called Father of Tragedy) Aeschylus was warned by the Oracle of Delphi that he would be struck down by a heavy object dropped from the sky. In panic he fled to the open countryside – but was killed when a turtle fell from the talons of a large eagle. This rendition of the turtle appears mid-flight transformed into an elaborate automaton. Its visible gearwork evoke the Antikythera mechanism – often dubbed the world’s first computer – discovered in a shipwreck from the 2nd century BCE. Equal parts myth and machine, The Flying Turtle nods to the strange ways in which fate can find us, even in the wide-open fields…
