A striking and highly refined bronze reduction by the celebrated Fonderia Chiurazzi, this sculpture faithfully reproduces the famed Roman marble athlete discovered at the Villa dei Papiri in Herculaneum and today preserved in the Naples National Archaeological Museum. Known variously as L’Atleta or the Roman Runner, the figure captures a fleeting and psychologically charged moment: the young athlete leans forward in concentrated anticipation, poised between stillness and motion. Founded in Naples in the late 19th century, Chiurazzi became internationally renowned for producing some of the finest museum-quality reductions and Grand Tour bronzes ever cast. Working directly from molds taken from the great antiquities of the Naples Museum, the foundry achieved extraordinary fidelity to the ancient originals. Their works were collected by aristocrats, scholars, museums, and discerning travelers throughout Europe and America, and today remain among the most sought-after examples of classical revival sculpture.
