About the Item

Chat perché is a bronze sculpture by French contemporary artist Marine de Soos, dimensions are 87 × 70 × 63 cm (34.3 × 27.6 × 24.8 in). The sculpture is signed and numbered, it is part of a limited edition of 8 editions + 4 artist’s proofs, and comes with a certificate of authenticity. A human figure-filled sculpture depicting a tree with strong roots and branches. These diminutive, anonymous figures are perched, standing, or resting among the branches. The sculpture's name comes from a well-known children's game, and the artwork bears witness to the tenderness of Marine de Soos' artistic world but not without humour. Additionally, there are exotic undertones, and the artist consistently expresses an invitation to travel in her artwork. Marine de Soos creates poetic sculptures in bronze, flooded with emotion. She relates true stories and conveys moments of pure joy, rehashed from souvenirs gathered from here and there : the position of a hand, a foot, the tilt of a head… Whatever the starting image an emotion is unequivocally connected : ” I can only work when I am feeling emotional” says the artist who admits not having “a vision of what [she is] going to create.” Her only guide… the emotion and, ultimately, an invitation to take a rare poetic journey which thrusts the viewer into a contemplative state.

Arbre-monde III by Cécile Raynal - sandstone sculpture, pigments, birds, tree

Arbre-monde III by Cécile Raynal - sandstone sculpture, pigments, birds, tree

By Cécile Raynal

Located in Paris, FR

Arbre-monde III is a unique smoke-fired sandstone sculpture by French contemporary artist Cécile Raynal, dimensions are 85 × 44 × 25 cm (33.4 × 17.3 × 9.8 in). This sculpture is a unique piece signed by the artist and comes with a certificate of authenticity. This highly narrative sculpture depicts a tree inhabited by various symbolic elements perched among its branches—birds, a wolf, a hare, and even a human hand. In recent years, animals have become increasingly prominent in Cécile Raynal’s artistic universe: "All kinds of beasts and hybrid forms populate my work. Chimeras, constructed by elective affinities between animal figures and human," she writes in Memories of Embers (Éditions Privat, 2018). More recently, however, the vegetal world has found a place in her sculptures, through representations of trees or the “vegetalization” of human and animal forms with branching elements. This evolution plays a central role in the present work. “The title of this series naturally echoes the novel by Richard Powers...
