About the Item

Low-fired glazed ceramic head sculpture features a radiant blue cloak and oil-painted facial details, exploring the tension between exposed identity and hidden emotional depths. Woman in Blue Cloak measures 48 × 42 × 22 cm and weighs 5 kg, crafted by Aldonza in 2024 using a low-temperature ceramic body layered with translucent scarlet and ruby glazes. Painterly oil accents render the closed eyes, softly parted lips, and delicate ear with lifelike warmth, while the drapery’s glossy red folds crackle and pool organically, evoking supple fabric and natural rock veining. Only the visage emerges from beneath the voluptuous cloak—its controlled reveal underscoring themes of vulnerability, duality, and inner fragility central to Aldonza’s practice. Each application of glaze yields unique surface markings—no two folds mirror each other—ensuring this one-of-a-kind piece carries distinct character. Presented in museum-quality condition, Woman in Blue Cloak rests directly on a low plinth or stable tabletop and requires no special installation beyond a secure display surface. This piece pairs with another from the same series, which can be found in our catalog. We offer a significant discount when both are purchased; please don’t hesitate to inquire if you are interested.
