About the Item

Part of Ser Uang Huang’s Travelers Series. Huang’s wooden sculpture Waiting! captures a moment of confident anticipation. The figure stands with head slightly raised, his expression not merely calm and focused but assured and full of expectation, as if certain that something good is about to arrive. There is no trace of impatience, only a steady, trusting composure that makes the pause feel meaningful and alive. Carved from precious Taiwanese teak wood, known for its dense, durable grain and warm tones that deepen from golden brown to rich dark hues over time, the work embodies lasting strength. Although stylized, its meaning is straightforward. Huang uses simplified lines to shape the coat, trousers, and shoes, and leaves natural, unpolished tool marks, lending subtle texture and depth. Soft, layered staining enhances the wood’s natural patterns and reinforces the sense of poised, hopeful waiting. Material: Teak wood
