The Heroes sculpture was first exhibited in 2021 at the solo show "Heroes and Monsters". A monumentally heavy and static work, The Heroes’ Skiff depicts a row of oarsmen whose very posture communicates exhaustion – both physical and existential. The composition’s focus is not their faces (heads bowed, hidden from view) but their scarred backs, lashed by whips. Their muscular bodies and discarded helmets at their feet suggest captured warriors, now enslaved – heroes reduced to laborers. The Heroes is the sculptor's meditation on the duality of concepts like good and evil, hero and slave – their fragility and vulnerability. For some, these warriors are heroes; for others, they are mere bondsmen, carrying out the orders of others. History is not an exact science, and collective memory is malleable. Tragically, in some societies, what was once considered evil can be recast tomorrow as a heroic deed. One of humanity’s greatest challenges is not only to learn from the past but also to prevent that past from becoming mere putty in the hands of those in power. Sergey Oganov was born in 1974 in the family of the famous Belarusian sculptor Lev Oganov. In 1994, Sergey Oganov graduated from the Sculpture Department of the Minsk Art School named after A. K. Glebova, and then entered the Belarusian State Academy of Arts in the specialty sculpture. His teachers were the iconic Belarusian sculptors - Finnish Alexander Mikhailovich, Slobodchikov Vladimir Ivanovich. After the successful graduation of the Academy, Sergey Oganov until 2005 trained in creative workshops of paintings, graphics and sculptures under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus under the leadership of M. A. Savitsky and L. M. Gumilevsky. Since 2005, Sergei Oganov has been a member of the Belarusian Union of Artists. In 2019, he was elected Chairman of the Sculpture Section of the Union. Eugene Caples "Bronze Sculpture II" Abstract Bronze Sculpture

Eugene Caples "Bronze Sculpture II" Abstract Bronze Sculpture

By Eugene Caples

Located in Detroit, MI

This small exquisite "Bronze Sculpture II" is in excellent condition and a perfect example of Eugene Caples craftsmanship. This is mainly abstract with some graphic or architectural elements and is so delightful that mythical creatures demand to be considered. It cries out to be touched and held, looked at and caressed. The beautiful patina on the surface gives voice to the many hands that have done these things. Eugene Caples is a designer and craftsman who worked in Kansas City in the 1960s and later through the early 21st century. He attended the Kansas City Art Institute, earning his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Industrial Design in 1959. In 1963 he was accepted to Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. The Cranbrook Academy of Art was designed by architect and faculty member, Eliel Saarinen who collaborated with Charles and Ray Eames on chair and furniture design. Numerous creative artists are alumni of Cranbrook and include: Harry Bertoia, Florence Knoll, Jack Lenor Larsen, Donald...
