About the Item

This alabaster white coloured metal indoor sculpture was inspired by traditional singing bowls. Canadian artist Marlene Hilton Moore is highly regarded for creating provocative and meaningful sculptural artwork. This large-sized stainless steel bowl’s design is based on traditional singing bowls often used in meditation practices. The metal bowl vibrates when touched so that the sound resonates with the body’s energy restoring balance and harmony. Coated in a glossy alabaster white this series is intended to explore themes of sound, communication, and the art of ‘listening. The singing bowls come in four sizes—small, medium, Large and Extra-Large. Displayed together they make a dynamic grouping. “The perfect hemisphere of the bowl, the inclusive reality of the circle, and the richness of the metals and their reflective glow ground this (exhibition) in the meditative moment – listen – center oneself – heal.” Marlene Hilton Moore Marlene Hilton Moore has received awards from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council and the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation. She has been a recipient of many Public Art Commissions including Valiants Memorial, Ottawa, Two Freedoms, McMurtry Gardens of Justice Commission, Sir Wilfrid Laurier for Wilfrid Laurier University, Wiidookdaadiwin, Simcoe County, Flowers at Our Feet, Toronto, the Borden Legacy Monument and most recently Blue Circle in Fredericton, NB. Her work is in the collection of the Canada Council Art Bank, the Agnes Etherington Art Centre, the University of Winnipeg and many other public and private collections.
