C. Jeré Artisan House Chandeliers and Pendants

American

C. Jeré by Artisan House — also known as Curtis Jeré and Artisan House — is an internationally acclaimed design firm that offers a wide variety of sculptures, decorative objects and furniture to its sophisticated clientele.

Founded in New York City by designers Curtis Frelier and Jerry Fels, Artisan House became revered for its Pop art, brutalist and semi-abstract wall sculptures and other decor in alluring patinated brass, copper and polished stainless steel. The studio’s works display a sense of playfulness and curiosity, while drawing on inspirations and themes that include flowers, discs, geometric forms and animal figures.

Brothers-in-law Frelier and Fels established Artisan House in 1964 after a successful run with a costume jewelry business. With Fels installed as head of design and Frelier as chief of production, Artisan House created exquisitely handcrafted sculptures and furniture that became synonymous with high society decor. While the founders sold Artisan House in 1972, the firm has continued to grow its successful creative business, partnering with the likes of Jonathan Adler and producing furnishings for hospitality properties as sets for films and TV shows such as Mad Men, an explosively successful series and paean to mid-century modern design

In 2006, Artisan House moved its base of operations from Los Angeles to a 40,000-square-foot facility in Burbank. This location features a photography studio, design studio, proprietary CAD design system, special ovens and an all-encompassing finishing floor. Artisan House employs a formidable team of talented craftspeople at their two overseas production facilities, which are poised to introduce new designs every April and October in major global markets.

The firm is looking to the future with Artisan House Europe, a sister company based in the Netherlands which opened in 2009. C. Jeré by Artisan House is a highlighted exhibitor at the New York Art Expo, HD Las Vegas and Maison & Objet, Paris

Mid-Century Modern Sputnik Chandelier in Brass and Opaline Glass, Czech Republic, 1970s A striking example of 1970s Eastern European design, this Mid-Century Modern Sputnik chandelier features a sculptural arrangement of twelve opaline glass spheres radiating from a polished brass core. Manufactured in the former Czechoslovakia, this piece captures the essence of space-age modernism with its bold geometric form and luxurious material contrast. The chandelier is constructed around a central brass sphere from which twelve angled arms extend, each terminating in a smooth, glossy opaline glass globe. The soft, milky tone of the glass provides warm, diffused light, creating a glowing effect that complements both vintage and contemporary interiors. With a height of 75 cm and a diameter of 53 cm, this chandelier has a strong visual impact without overwhelming the space. Its proportions make it ideal for dining areas, entryways, or living rooms seeking a refined statement piece. The central stem and canopy are made of polished brass, consistent with the high-quality craftsmanship typical of Czechoslovakian lighting...

Mid-Century Modern Brutalist Pendant Light by Svend Aage Holm Sørensen, 1960’s
Mid-Century Modern Brutalist Pendant Light by Svend Aage Holm Sørensen, 1960’s

Mid-Century Modern Brutalist Pendant Light by Svend Aage Holm Sørensen, 1960’s

By Svend Aage Holm Sørensen, Holm Sørensen

Located in London, GB

Danish designer Svend Aage Holm Sørensen (1913-2004) is known for his self-produced lighting designs dating from the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s. Despite the desirability of his designs on the vintage market, there is a lack of biographical information on the designer and his eponymous manufacturing company. The Danish designer Svend Aage Holm-Sørensen (1913-2004) possessed an artist eye and a very good understanding of the potential of materials, and he understood how to innovate with these. To this day, Holm-Sørensen's style as a designer addresses not only the Nordic market, but also the international interest in the designer's distinctive and experimental expression. Sven Aage was known for being able to draw sketches on almost everything: envelopes, theater programs, even tram tickets he used to sketch his vision. It is speculated that Holm Sørensen designed lights for well-known Danish lighting manufacturers Fog & Mørup and Lyfa in the 1950s, before establishing his own lighting company, Holm Sørensen A/S to produce and distribute his own designs. Holm Sørensen’s style varies greatly, with designs from the 1950s truly reflecting the mid-century modern lighting style, with clear influences from the De Stijl and Bauhaus movements. His attenuated floor and table lamps contain the classic tri-pod base that was popular at the time, referencing such designs as H. Th. J. A. Busquet’s Pinocchio Lamp (1954). From the 1960s onwards, Holm Sørensen’s style changed utterly. His designs diverged from colorful, geometric table lamps and floor lamps, to pendants with raw finished brass and copper surfaces. These pendant lamps showcase Holm Sørensen’s interpretation of the Brutalist style, which was popular from the 1950s to the mid-70s. Originally coined by the Swedish architect Hans Asplund...
