Artist’s Statement: “I have been an abstract painter for over 30 years, and I can't exactly say what caused me to one night go to the studio and paint flowers, of all things. But of course, the 'template' of flowers in a vase is really just a basis, like any other, for color and form, and moving paint around. And I use unlikely color combinations as in my non-representational work; these flowers don't exist in nature - they came out of my head. So I can do pretty much anything I want to - I don't feel any more restricted than I do when I'm making abstract paintings. This one I framed in an ornate frame so the whole thing vibrates sort of like a late Van...
