Igor Fomin Interior Paintings

Belarusian, b. 1963
Fomin is a storytelling artist. He is a storyteller in his everyday, anecdotally narrating the funny side of life, and he is a storyteller in his professional life, bringing to the canvas realistic popular scenes set in fairy-tale settings where the subject matter is always treated with irony and humor. The titles of his paintings tell us about eccentric characters of an era, a culture, a society (which one?) - it doesn't matter, it is a distorted reality with a romantic and sentimental touch, which takes us to references such as Brueghel the Elder, El Bosco and Chagall, within an aesthetic and chromatism typical of Renaissance painting where Fomin develops his original scenes playing with the design of spaces, landscapes, buildings, characters and costumes. A stage director who makes us smile, but also reflect on his original interpretation of the human being, because this is the main protagonist of his paintings. Igor Fomin (Minsk, Bielorrusia, 1963) studied architecture at the University of Minsk, but even at this time he was showing his liking for the word of painting. His first jobs in the world of painting at this time were as a commissioned graphic designer. En 1988 he started painting pictures, a small forerunner of the style for which he is now recognized. During this period, his love of music also led him to study the classical guitar, a theme which he developed extensively in his painting. Music and architecture are two permanent elements in his paintings. In 1992 he settled in Spain with his newly created family and, unable to work as architects due to their lack of knowledge of the language, he and his wife, the painter Elena Narkevich, began to work with art galleries, and their work soon began to be recognized. In 1994 he was accepted to the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors (Asociación Española de Pintores y Escultores). During these years he won a Second place prize in the Naive Art Competition. In 1996 he won First place prize in the Autumn Salon organized by the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors. Since 1989 Igor Fomin and his family are living and working in Spain. He is a participant in important Art Fairs (i.e. Art New York 2018), and his works can be found in private collections in Russia, Germany, the USA, UK and many others.

Farhad Hussain - Swimming Pool Fun - 15 x 15 inches (unframed size) Acrylic on Canvas, 2020 Inclusive of shipment in roll form. Style: Farhad Hussain's colourful work that includes drawings and watercolours besides paintings on canvas, features day to day visual experiences of middle-class urban India. He endows his narrative with iconography and personality through his figuration, their posturing, dress and the surrounding imagery. The drama of subtle complexities of human relationships and social environment are grounded with a sense of satire mixed with pathos. Farhad’s colours help enhance the brightness and aura of his paintings while he also partakes elements from traditions such as the formulaic textile patterns of Indian miniatures. His compositions are often set in a familiar drawing room or a social space, playing out with humour and sarcasm, the narrative psychologies of human life and encounters at various levels. This young artist who has also experimented with sculpture has already carved a niche and an instantly recognizable individualistic style befitting his aesthetics and concerns. Farhad has chosen to use tempera on cloth for his works, the media allowing him to achieve the desired vibrancy of colours. A slow build-up of images and spontaneous flow of colour while balancing colour and composition simultaneously follow structured formatting. This meticulous planning in the composition and layout is the beginning of a process from where onwards it is very spontaneous and intuitive. Another technique used throughout Farhad’s work is the method of applying the colour: dot-by-dot till the entire area is completely covered. Various elements from miniature paintings, Kalighat paintings, Japanese prints and images from mass media are scrutinized, transformed and transferred on to the surface through the artists own style of expression. Sudhanshu Sutar - Untitled - 36 x 48 inches (unframed size) Acrylic on Canvas Inclusive of shipment in roll form. Style : Sudhanshu Sutar evokes imagery replete with nostalgia that he transforms effectively with his masterly hold over technique into a surrealistic leap into the future. Sudhansu is from the eastern Indian state of Orissa. In the words of eminent poet Kathleen Laine “The ‘real’ Orissa is what the imagination has created in her heritage of music, painting, architecture, poetry, all the crafts and arts together with her incomparable continuity in thought, and expression.” Whether it is Buddhism, Sculpture (The Sun Temple at Konark) or Odissi dance, Orissa has an impressionable image in Indian psyche and its history. Struggling to find gallery representation at the time, he made ends meet in the capital by painting large format billboards surrounding Delhi’s most expansive exhibition space at Pragati Maidan. He continued to do a variety of odd jobs and endured as an artist; finding some recognition through a gallery in Japan that helped him sustain a modest living in the capital for the last decade. His new work is representational of his roots from Orissa and the time he spent in Delhi. A marvelous combination of his rural psychological imagery and his complex survival in the big city reveals some visually salient images. About the Artist & his works : Born : 1969 in Orissa. Education : He graduated in Fine Arts from Utkal University, Orissa, 1993. Solo Exhibitions : 2012 : Art Heritage, Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi 2007 : Art Musings, Mumbai 2006 : ‘We want Your Life’, Gallery Alternatives, Gurgaon, Haryana 1999 : 'Fact Beyond Fact' exhibition at Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi 1996 : Sizoka Art Gallery, Japan 1991 : Pune University, Pune, Maharashtra Group Exhibitions : 2012 : ‘Angkor Wat : An Indian Perspective’, Gallery Art & Soul, Mumbai 2011 : ‘The Lost Sparrow’, presented by Gallery Threshold at Visual Art Gallery, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi & Gallery Sumukha, Chennai 2010 : ‘Indian (Sub) Way’, Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi ; Grosvenor Vadehra, London ; 1 x 1 Art Gallery, Dubai ; 'Next...', Amelia Johnson Contemporary, Hong Kong & 'Who Has Seen Gandhi?', presented by Tangerine Art...
