About the Item

The history of the caftan is a bit uncertain. It is believed to have originated from Turkish culture but appears in many others. In Morocco, it was first worn by men but was eventually adopted by women, as well. These loose tunics are historically adorned with ornate trims, like the intricate gold passementerie on this vintage caftan. Done in a sumptuous royal blue silk embroidered with a floral motif, this caftan dress evokes effortless luxury and desert nights under the stars. The sleeveless design begins with a deep V neckline and falls to a maxi length at the ankles in a simple yet chic silhouette. The slits at the shoulders are secured with four gold passementerie buttons on each side of the neck, adding yet another layer of drama to this incredible dress. The caftan features an embroidered floral pattern in coral and metallic gold thread, which offers a nice contrast to the royal blue ground. The flowers lightly decorate the front and back of the caftan, while wide bands of a complementary and more intricate floral pattern at the seam lines and hem draw the dress together visually.
