About the Item

Khmer Pedestal Jar, 12th century. A sturdily potted earthenware globular form on a raised and waisted pedestal base decorated with bands at the shoulder and tightly packed applied pendant forms encircling the raised collar. Later paktong band encircling the mouth in Thai style. Most likely this pot originally would have had a tall trumpet mouth which along the course of the life of the pot has been damaged and lost, thus the addition of the collar to conceal the break. Covered overall in an unctuous olive brown glaze by submersion with drips and glaze gaps. Condition: Signs of use and age with glaze degradation, flakes and abrasion in areas. 10-1/4 in. high x 9-1/4 in. in diameter (261 x 236 mm) 6 lbs. 15 oz. (3129g.) Angkor period, Khmer empire, 12th century.
