About the Item

This is an impressive Pan-Asian 16-inch charger that combines the soft luminosity of celadon glaze with a classic blue-and-white landscape rendered in the tradition of East Asian literati painting. It reflects the Korean, Chinese and Japanese traditions. The calligraphy is Chinese and the charger carries the Dai Nippon style mark. At its center, a serene waterside scene unfolds with distant mountains, stylized clouds, and a solitary pavilion, evoking themes of quiet retreat and contemplation. The wide celadon border is accented with calligraphic characters in iron-red and black, adding a striking graphic contrast to the tranquil interior. The underside bears a mark consistent with Japanese export ceramics, likely dating to the mid-20th century (1950-1960s). Blending Korean celadon influence with Chinese pictorial motifs and Japanese production, this piece offers a refined and decorative presence, ideal for wall display or as a statement centerpiece.
