With rustic texture and simplicity of form, this petite 19th-century stool is a timeless example of casual seating in rural China. Crafted of northern elm (yumu) with mortise-and-tenon joinery, the low stool features a round seat shaped from burl wood, chosen for its swirling wood grain and luminous color. The seat is supported by three short legs with flared curvature and interlocking stretcher bars.
